A 16-year-old boy on a bicycle was hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after colliding with a sheriff’s squad car in Palmdale, authorities said.
Deputies said the bike rider ran a red light and was hit by the sheriff’s cruiser as the driver deputy, who had a green light, could not stop in time.
The crash occurred at 11:24 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 47th Street and Avenue S, said Sgt. Oscar Martinez of the Sheriff’s Palmdale Station.
The deputy was driving north on 47th and had a green light as he approached Avenue S, Martinez said. The cyclist entered the intersection against the red light, and the deputy — unable to stop in time — struck him, he said.
The teen was taken to a hospital in serious condition. The intersection was closed for the investigation.
