A 49-year-old Inglewood woman was killed in a head-on crash with an out-of-control SUV that may have been in a street race with a third vehicle that drove away after the deadly collision, and police Saturday said they want to find the driver of that missing vehicle.
The driver of the suspected street-racing SUV remained hospitalized.
The collision was reported at 1 p.m. Friday in the area of Van Ness Avenue and Imperial Highway, the Inglewood Police Department reported.
Police said a 2004 Infiniti FX35 mid-size SUV was traveling north on Van Ness at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and veered into southbound lanes, colliding head on with a 2008 Toyota Highlander.
Both drivers were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the Highlander succumbed to her injuries and was identified by Inglewood police as Sonya Lee.
The condition of the driver of the Infiniti was not available and there was no immediate word of arrests.
Witnesses said the Infiniti driver may have been racing a gray late model, four-door BMW.
Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to call Inglewood Police Traffic Investigator Ryan Green at (310) 412-5134.
