In a freak deadly accident that some may say showed the hand of God, a freeway driver was killed Wednesday when a wheel flew off a nearby vehicle and slammed into the victim’s car.
It wasn’t yet clear why the wheel came off the other vehicle that was traveling on the other side of the freeway from the death car, nor where the flying wheel struck.
The deadly accident took place on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Santa Clarita about 2:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near Placerita Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol, which reported that the wheel came off of a northbound vehicle.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The carpool lane and three left main lanes on the southbound side of the freeway were closed and a SigAlert was issued.
A report from the scene later showed all northbound lanes closed as officers appeared to be searching the roadway.
