The name of a 20-year-old man who died of injuries he suffered in a car crash on the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway was released Sunday by the coroner’s office.
Deonte Young died at a hospital about 45 minutes after the crash, which occurred about 11:55 p.m. Sunday at Ninth Street, according to the California Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.
Young was the right front passenger in a 1994 Mercedes-Benz sedan that was traveling “at a high rate of speed” when it crashed into the sound wall on the right shoulder of the freeway, according to the CHP and the coroner’s office.
The driver, an 18-year-old man, suffered major injuries, as did his two other passengers, men ages 18 and 19, and all were transported for hospital treatment, the CHP reported.
The motorist was placed under arrest, and may face unspecified criminal charges when his condition permits, according to the CHP, which asked anyone with information relevant to the case to call the CHP Central Area office at (213) 744-2331.
