An El Monte high school teacher and girls’ soccer coach Daniel Rios has been arrested after being charged with one count of committing lewd acts on a minor and four counts of child annoyance, police said Friday.
Rios, 51, was arrested on Wednesday at his El Monte home and later arraigned in Superior Court in Pomona, according to El Monte police Sgt. Richard Luna.
Rios is a teacher and coach at Arroyo High School.
Detectives began an investigation in late December after learning of an allegation of inappropriate contact between Rios and several female high school age students, Luna said.
Police believe the crimes occurred on Nov. 1, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.
The case was submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which determined there was enough evidence to file a criminal complaint.
“The complaint was filed and an arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Rios,” Luna said.
Rios remains in custody at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles in lieu of $105,000 bail and is next due in court on May 1, according to sheriff’s inmate records.
