To nobody’s surprise, Arnold Schwarzenegger cuts his “New Celebrity Apprentice” contestants by saying: “You’re terminated.” Also not a shock: The show is being hit as sexist.
Kevin Fallon of The Daily Beast wrote: “It promotes the idea that women are dispensable, that they exist to be ridiculed, that misogyny rules, and that male hubris trumps—heh—any superior, intellectual quality from a female counterpart.”
Moreover: “The women are portrayed as disorganized, defined by indecision and false confidence—the latter of which is probably the most offensive aspect, insinuating that it was foolish for any of the women to think they’d know how to go about pulling off the showcase. (Meanwhile, each and every female celebrity on the cast is a successful entrepreneur of largely beauty and lifestyle-related businesses.)”
The New York Times review focused on the Governator’s lack of Trumpian comedy.
“The sheer pleasure [Trump] took in saying ‘you’re fired,’ in playing the part of the demonic boss, gave the show a comic dimension that distinguished it from other, more earnest reality competitions.
“With Mr. Schwarzenegger, there’s no joy, just a — you’ll pardon the word — robotic professionalism. His rebukes don’t have enough bite, his stares don’t have enough menace.”
Gossip Cop listed “Team Arete” as Eric Dickerson, Boy George, Matt Iseman, Carson Kresley, Jon Lovitz, Vince Neil, Chael Sonnen and Ricky Williams.
“Team Prima” is Laila Ali, Brooke Burke, Carrie Keagan, Lisa Leslie, Snooki, Kyle Richards, Porsha Williams and Carnie Wilson.
The Chicago Tribune observed that Schwarzenegger didn’t mention Trump during the two-hour premiere.
“At one point he cajoled the contestants to speak up during boardroom scenes. While keeping quiet had helped people avoid elimination in the past, Schwarzenegger said, ‘that’s not the way I handle things.'”
Here’s how others handled the first episode:
“The ‘new’ Celebrity Apprentice for a ‘new’ America. […] It’s one of the grossest images seen on TV in a while.” https://t.co/vt4jotiP3K
