Going into the weekend, there was little doubt about which movie would dominate theaters, and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” didn’t disappoint, according to final figures released Monday.The “Guardians” sequel earned $146.5 million at North American theaters, far outpacing any other movie offering, according to box office tracker comScore.
“The Fate of the Furious” placed a distant second, collecting $8.6 million between Friday and Sunday. In its four weeks of release, the film has earned $207.2 million.
The animated comedy “The Boss Baby” took third place with $6 million, giving it a six-week take of $156.5 million. The comedy “How to be a Latin Lover” took in $5.1 million over the weekend.
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” still had an audience, collecting $5 million and pushing its eight-week total to $487.7 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “The Circle” ($4 million); “Baahubali: The Conclusion” ($3.4 million); “Gifted” ($2 million); “Smurfs: The Lost Village” ($1.84 million); and “Going in Style” ($1.8 million).
