A suspect wounded by police gunfire at a Huntington Beach RV park was in critical condition Tuesday, police said.
At 10:21 p.m. Monday, an officer went to 21871 Newland St. in response to a situation involving a female who possibly overdosed and a male who was agitated because she called for assistance, said Huntington Beach Police Officer Jennifer Marlatt. The officer found the unresponsive woman lying on the ground and a man standing next to her, holding a knife, Marlatt said.
The man was uncooperative, disregarding the officer’s commands to put the knife down, and several shots were fired at the suspect as a result, she said, adding that the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The unresponsive woman and the officer were not injured in the shooting, she said. However, there was no word on that woman’s condition from whatever she had apparently ingested.
As per the department’s protocol, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting, Marlatt said.
