Friday’s storm has prompted officials to cancel racing at two tracks — in Arcadia and Cypress.
Santa Anita Park officials said Friday’s eight-race card has been canceled at the Arcadia race track because more than five inches of rain and local flooding is expected, and no simulcast racing will be offered.
“The National Weather Service has predicted (today’s) storm will hit pre-dawn and that it could be the strongest in recent years, with the prospect of local flooding throughout the day and wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour,” park officials said in a statement.
Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress has also canceled its eight-race program due to the storm but will remain open for simulcasting featuring racing from Golden Gate Fields, east coast thoroughbred tracks, harness racing from Cal Expo in Sacramento and more. Los Alamitos will offer free general admission and parking Friday but The Vessels Club will be closed, officials said.
Racing at Santa Anita Park is expected to resume Saturday for Presidents Day weekend. For track condition updates, scratches, changes and complete morning line information, people can visit santaanita.com.
Los Alamitos will host live racing Saturday night.
