Police Tuesday announced there will be a $25,000 reward offered for information about a November hit-and-run in the Westlake area that left a man in a coma.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the official reward announcement will come on Thursday regarding the severe injuries suffered by Luis Varela about 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 as he was crossing Wilshire Boulevard at Park View Street and was struck by a vehicle that did not stop.
Varela sustained severe head trauma and was admitted into the intensive care unit at a local hospital, where he remains in a coma, police said.
On Thursday, members of the Varela family plan to join detectives and Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez’s office to formally announce the $25,000 reward for any information leading to the identity, arrest and conviction of the driver.
Anyone with information regarding the incident was encouraged to contact Det. Juan Campos at 213-486-0755 or by email at 31480@LAPD.online.
