An overnight storm drain installation will temporarily close a portion of Jackson Street in Indio.
Starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, the road will be closed for eight hours between Civic Center Drive and Highway 111, the city said in a statement.
Another eight-hour closure is scheduled for the following night, officials said.
The new drain is part of the first phase of a downtown revitalization project meant to “alleviate flooding, enhance public safety and beautify the streets,” according to the statement.
In addition to drain upgrades, the phase includes underground storm pipes, curb extensions, rain gardens and landscaping.
Areas of the sidewalk adjacent to the contractor’s work may also be restricted to the public.
Drivers are advised to use detours via Smurr Street or Golf Center Parkway.
