Firefighters needed about 50 minutes Wednesday morning to extinguish a major emergency structure fire that damaged a commercial building and a residence over the business in South Los Angeles.
Crews from the Los Angeles city and county fire departments responded at 3:55 a.m. to 818 E. Florence Ave., and located a blaze in a two-story building with a business on the bottom floor and residence above and worked quickly to confine the flames to that building while protecting a nearby one-story commercial building, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A total of 110 Los Angeles firefighters and an unknown number of county firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and a knockdown was declared at 4:44 a.m., he said.
The location of the fire was near the border of the city and county of Los Angeles.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
