Sections of Ocean Avenue between Washington Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard will be closed through next month for replacement of a water main, Santa Monica city officials said Thursday.

Two water main breaks occurred in the last week — one on Saturday and another Wednesday. The breaks are believed to be related to partial pipe corrosion.

Water service has been restored to residents and businesses in the area, and service is expected to remain uninterrupted during the work.

The closures will occur as follows:

— Work Area 1: Thursday through Friday, 5 p.m.: Ocean Avenue between California and Washington avenues: The northbound and southbound lanes on Ocean Avenue between California and Washington avenues will be closed. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be detoured to Second Street and metered parking will be temporarily unavailable.

— Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 a.m. through Friday, Sept. 13: The northbound lane on Ocean Avenue between California and Washington avenues will be closed. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Second Street and metered parking will be temporarily unavailable. The City anticipates completing construction on Sept. 13. The southbound lane will be open to traffic.

— Work Area 2: Ocean Avenue between Wilshire Boulevard and California Avenue: The city is in the process of scheduling construction work for this area and will issue a notice prior to starting construction.

Questions regarding this project can be directed to the Water Resources Division at 310-458-8736.
