Tippi Hedren, best known as a star of Alfred Hitchcok’s “The Birds,” obtained a split decision in a lawsuit brought by a domestic worker who alleges she was injured on an Acton property owned by the actress and animal rights activist.

Although Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen I. Goorvitch on Thursday denied a motion by the 90-year-old actress to dismiss Blanca Monge’s case, he did allow Hedren to file a cross-complaint against a third party, Acton Nursery Landscape, that seeks compensation for any damages she may have to pay the plaintiff.

Hedren, perhaps most famous for her role in the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film “The Birds,” is the mother of Melanie Griffith and the grandmother of Dakota Johnson.

Monge filed the lawsuit in July 2017, saying she slipped and fell on stairs located on premises owned and managed by Hedren on Soledad Canyon Road on Sept. 11, 2016. The lawsuit states the location is Hedren’s home, but the address given in the lawsuit is that of the Shambala Preserve animal sanctuary. Hedren founded the Roar Foundation in 1983 to support the preserve.

Monge later testified in a deposition that she actually slipped in a rear yard on a pile of dirt. The Hedren cross-complaint alleges the dirt was left there by Acton Nursery Landscape.

In yet another ruling, Goorvitch allowed Monge to file an amended complaint noting the change in where she was allegedly hurt.

“Monge is a native Spanish speaker with a limited ability to understand and speak English,” her court papers state. “And the attorney who drafted the original complaint in this action does not speak or understand Spanish.”

In her deposition, Monge said she walked about 20 feet outside before the fall happened on an uneven surface.

“It was like higher and lower in different areas,” Monge said. “So when I stepped with this foot, my right foot, it slid and the other one went the other way.”

She said that when she fell, she “heard like a crack. And when I tried to get up, I couldn’t.”

Monge testified she felt “so much pain in my knee and I started asking for help, but there was no one.”

Monge was hired by Hedren in 2015 to cook and prepare meals, go grocery shopping, arrange doctor appointments, clean Hedren’s premises, run errands, obtain medical prescriptions, drive Hedren and her family members to various places and to act as a companion to the actress, including walking with her, according to the suit.
