The number of COVID-positive patients in Riverside County hospitals has dropped to 351, down from 378 on Saturday and 391 on Friday, according to the latest state figures.

Of those patients hospitalized as of Sunday, 68 were in intensive care, down from 73 on Saturday, 78 reported Friday and 92 on Thursday.

The latest numbers come two days after the Riverside University Health System subtracted one death from its COVID reporting, lowering the county’s virus-related death toll to 6,130 since the pandemic began. It was unclear why that death was subtracted.

Fatalities are considered trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates, meaning some deaths may have actually occurred weeks ago, according to health officials.

The RUHS on Friday also reported 852 new cases of COVID-19. The aggregate number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the county since the pandemic began in March 2020 is 586,447.

The number of known active virus cases in the county was 101,459 Friday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 586,447. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 478,858.

The RUHS does not report COVID data on weekends.
