Work continued Tuesday to repair a water main that opened a hole in Sepulveda Boulevard near Los Angeles International Airport, but some traffic was finally moving through the area.

The break was reported about 8:20 p.m. Sunday on Sepulveda Boulevard at Century Boulevard.

The southbound side of Sepulveda was fully closed and remained blocked throughout the day Monday. On Tuesday, airport officials reported that one southbound lane had reopened. By late Tuesday afternoon, all but one lane in each direction of Sepulveda were open.

Motorists were still being urged to avoid the area. Travelers were advised to find other ways to access the airport, and allow extra time to arrive.

People heading to the airport on southbound Sepulveda were advised to turn left on Westchester Parkway, then head south on Airport Boulevard, turning right on either Century Boulevard to drive straight in to the terminal area, or right on 96th Street then right on Vicksburg Avenue to reach the terminals.

People traveling north on Sepulveda can take the overpass entrance just north of the Sepulveda tunnel. Northbound travelers can also take Aviation Boulevard, then turn left on Century to reach the terminals.
