A man was found dead inside a white SUV that went down an embankment of an off-ramp from the San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne Saturday evening, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down the ramp.
The incident was reported at 6:03 p.m. on the El Segundo Boulevard off-ramp from the northbound San Diego Freeway, according to CHP Officer Stephen Brandt.
A witness reported the SUV was down the embankment and smoking in the bushes, Brandt said. A man believed in his 30s was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
A SigAlert was issued at 6:18 p.m. shutting down the off-ramp for the investigation.
