A man and woman described by a police sergeant as homeless crack cocaine addicts were wounded by gunfire in South Los Angeles Sunday night.
The shooting was reported about 8:40 p.m. in the 6400 block of Hoover Street, said Sgt. Rudy Alaniz, watch commander of the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Station.
The victims, who are between 50 and 60 years old, “got into a confrontation with an unknown person who fired numerous rounds at them,” Alaniz said.
The woman was struck in the buttocks and the man in an arm, he said, adding that they were taken to California Hospital Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting was not gang-related, said Alaniz, who described the victims as “basehead, crack-smoking” homeless people.
