Two people were shot Wednesday afternoon, one fatally, inside a car which then crashed into a fire hydrant in South Los Angeles.

Police got a report of shots being fired about 4:50 p.m. Officers went to the intersection of Denker Avenue and 68th Street, where they found the victims inside the vehicle, which sheared off a hydrant when it came to a stop, causing a huge geyser of water to shoot skyward.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was rushed to a hospital by paramedics, said Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

Preciado said she did not have confirmation of the survivor’s gender or the ages of either victim, both males.

ABC7 reported the victims were teenagers and that police were searching for a white SUV driven by a man with two women passengers.
