A La Puente man was convicted Thursday of sex abuse charges involving two female family members.

Jurors deliberated for less than three hours before convicting Mark Christopher Acosta, 45, of four counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 or younger, three counts of committing a lewd act on a child and one count each of continuous sexual abuse and child molesting, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Acosta sexually abused two female family members at separate times between 2001 and 2009, said Deputy District Attorney Babette Huley.

The prosecutor said the first victim revealed the abuse to an adult in 2007, but the adult did not believe her. The second victim came forward in 2013, and the first victim then alerted authorities to what had happened to her.

Acosta has been jailed since his February 2014 arrest. He’s facing up to 120 years to life in state prison and registration as a lifetime sex offender, with sentencing set for April 7 at the Pomona courthouse.
