A 41-year-old man accused of stabbing his girlfriend with a box cutter as she sat in the passenger seat of his pickup truck in a Van Nuys alley pleaded not guilty today to a murder charge.
Osmar Gomez is charged with killing of Klaudia Y. Alas, a 32-year-old mother of three, whose body was found inside the pickup around 7:50 a.m. March 24 in an alley near Kester Avenue and Lemay Street.
According to police, Gomez called authorities around 7:50 a.m. that day and claimed the couple had been attacked by three men about four hours earlier, and he had lost consciousness from a stab wound. He was found next to the truck and taken to a hospital.
The weapon believed to have been used in the killing was found at the scene, police said.
A judge set Gomez’s bail at $1 million.
He is due back in court April 8 for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
Gomez faces life in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.
