A man who allegedly burglarized Raspado Xpress juice bars in Panorama City, Pacoima and Sun Valley was arrested after someone recognized a distinctive tattoo on his forearm that was photographed by a security camera, authorities said Monday.
Michael Martinez, 46, of Granada Hills was arrested Sunday and booked on suspicion of commercial burglary, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and the sheriff’s department. He was held on $60,000 bail.
“His tattoo was his undoing,” said LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon, commander of the Mission Detective Division.
The crimes occurred between 4 and 5 a.m. on March 28 in Panorama City, on April 3 in Pacoima, and on April 6 in Sun Valley. All the stores were closed at the time.
Late last week, police circulated security images of a man burglarizing a store, including a closeup of his forearm tattoo, described as a cross or an emblem.
On Saturday, a tipster saw the man near a market and contacted police, and detectives tracked him down and arrested him in the city of San Fernando, Vernon said.
Police believe Martinez may have committed other similar crimes. Anyone with more information was urged to call Detective Samer Issa at (818) 838-9977, or (877) LAPD-247.
