Authorities on Sunday publicly identified a 22-year-old man struck and killed by a freight train in Lancaster.

His name was Richard Baldwin III of Lancaster, Los Angeles County coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral told the Los Angeles Daily News.

He was struck about 1:55 a.m. Saturday just north of the Lancaster Metrolink station, near the intersection of Sierra Highway and West Lancaster Boulevard, and died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. David Grall said the victim’s death was believed to be accidental, rather than suicide, but it was still under investigation.
