A man was killed and a woman was wounded in an exchange of gunfire between two men in an apartment complex in Santa Clarita Wednesday afternoon with sheriff’s detectives attempting to determine if it was connected with an earlier shooting on a nearby freeway.
Gunfire erupted around 4:30 p.m. in an apartment complex in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita, said Deputy Amber Smith of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The injured woman was taken to a hospital where she was listed as being in stable condition.
The California Highway Patrol told the sheriff’s department at 3:47 p.m. someone had shot into a car on a nearby freeway.
Detectives initially thought the two events were not related, but the situation remains unclear, Smith said.
The vehicle hit by bullets on the freeway was found at an apartment complex, but Smith said it was not clear if it was the apartment complex where the fatal shooting occurred.
Several people — men and women– were taken into custody at the apartment complex, Smith said.
