A 59-year-old hang glider pilot was killed in a crash in the Kagel Canyon area above Sylmar on Saturday evening.

The man was identified as West Hollywood resident Markus Michael Albert Schaedler, said Coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral.

The Schaedler was with four other pilots who descended from a mountain peak known as Hang Glider Point, but authorities were summoned about 6:20 p.m. when the victim failed to show up at a rally point, Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Lt. Bill Jaeger said.

A search was conducted and the crumpled hang glider was found, along with Schaedler, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Jaeger said.
