A vehicle went about 250 feet over the side of the Angeles Crest Highway above Pasadena on Sunday, injuring a woman and prompting the closure of the mountain route during the search for a man who was located hours after the crash.

The vehicle was reported over the side shortly before 10 a.m. at mile marker 38.38, just north of Mt. Wilson Red Box Road, but the crash may have happened some time between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A woman was taken to a hospital, but a man who was in the vehicle was not located for hours according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

The man was hoisted from the scene about 4:15 p.m. He was the vehicle’s driver, according to reports from the scene.

The highway closure had been cancelled about 2:45 p.m., but about 30 minutes later, media members in the area reported hearing a man calling for help, authorities said.

The road was closed again an hour later when the man was located, according to the CHP.

Two dogs that were in the vehicle were rescued when the woman was found, according to a report from the scene.
