A woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to fatally shooting her 17-year-old son as he slept in a Rosemead hotel room last month.
Prosecutors allege that 49-year-old Lai Yeung Hang of Rosemead checked into a hotel in the 8700 block of Valley Boulevard with her son, George, on July 26 and shot him the next day while he slept.

Witnesses at the hotel said they heard gunshots about 5 a.m., but the shooting wasn’t reported to authorities until about five hours later when Hang called 911.
A handgun was found inside the hotel room, investigators said.
Hang — whose bail is set at $2 million — has remained jailed since her July 27 arrest.
She is due back in a Pasadena courtroom Sept. 16, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require her to stand trial.
If convicted as charged, she could face up to 50 years to life in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
