A 22-year-old Redondo Beach man was charged Friday with murdering his girlfriend, with whom he had an 8-month-old child.
Roy Pena Rodriguez Jr. is scheduled to be arraigned next Thursday in a Torrance courtroom in connection with the death of Paige Chiarello.
The 21-year-old woman was shot in the head Wednesday during a domestic dispute at her grandfather’s home, according to Deputy District Attorney Maren Dermody.

Rodriguez allegedly threatened the grandfather when he tried to help his granddaughter and great-grandson, but he managed to call 911, according to the prosecutor.
Rodriguez was arrested after a half-hour standoff with authorities, and was initially booked on suspicion of attempted murder, said police Lt. Joe Hoffman.
After Chiarello died at a hospital about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Rodriguez was rebooked on suspicion of murder.
He is also charged with one felony count of dissuading a witness by force or threat and two felony counts of making criminal threats involving the grandfather.
