montebello suspect transient

A transient was in custody Thursday for allegedly kidnapping a woman at knifepoint and forcing her to remove cash from an ATM, Montebello police reported.

Omar Juarez, 23, was arrested about 5 p.m. Wednesday, said Montebello police Detective Alfred Martinez.

Juarez was being held on $100,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court in downtown Los Angeles on Friday.

“Officers … determined that a 19-year-old female had been kidnapped and carjacked at about 2 a.m. (Tuesday) in the area of Bluff Road and Whittier Boulevard,” Martinez said.

“The victim stated she parked in the area to rest before driving home, and left her vehicle unsecured, falling asleep inside,” he said. “She was later awakened when she felt something on her neck, and realized that a male was in her passenger seat holding a knife to her neck.”

The suspect forced the woman to drive to an ATM and withdraw money, then fled, Martinez said. The investigation led to the arrest of Juarez the following day, Martinez said.
