Richard Paul Daniels, 55, of Rancho Cucamonga, was arrested Tuesday.

El Monte police were notified by high school administrators of “an allegation of inappropriate contact between a female student and a male teacher,” said Sgt. Richard Luna.

“An investigation occurred, and it was determined that over the last six months, the teacher had a sexual relationship with the student,” the sergeant alleged.

The age of the student, who lives in El Monte, was not disclosed.

Daniels pleaded not guilty to five counts each of unlawful sexual intercourse and oral copulation of a person under 18 and one count each of sodomy of a person under 18 and committing a lewd act on a child.

He is jailed in lieu of $450,000 bail and is due back in a Pomona courtroom Sept. 30 for the setting of a preliminary hearing date.
