One of two fugitive brothers on the run for 18 years in connection with a murder-for-hire killing was caught hiding in Mexico but his sibling remains on the loose, the FBI says.
Ruben Lopez Ramirez was arrested Oct. 15 by Mexican law enforcement after FBI agents tracked him to an area in Guadalajara, the FBI said. Lopez Ramirez is a Mexican national and will be tried there for the 1997 murder of 60- year-old Leonard Miller.
His brother, David Lopez Ramirez, is still on the run. The FBI has offered a $10,000 reward for an information leading to his arrest and conviction.
Miller was one of the owners of “Low Rider Hydraulics,” a car parts supply business in San Jose that was in direct competition with the brothers, the Los Angeles Times reported. The brothers operated “Red’s Hydraulics” in Long Beach.
Investigators believe the brothers hired and ordered three men associated with the Mexican Mafia to kill Miller, according to The FBI.
The three men were found guilty of killing Miller, but the brothers fled the country.
