A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the Florence section of South Los Angeles.

The shooting was reported just before 7 p.m. Friday, near 62nd Street and Grand Avenue, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Cesar Orozco, watch commander at Newton Division.

“It looks like the gunman walked up and shot the victim,” Orozco said. “So far it doesn’t appear to be gang-related.”

The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. A videographer said paramedics were performing CPR on the victim before taking him from the scene in an ambulance.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to authorities. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information was asked to call the LAPD’s Newton Division at (323) 846-6547. All tips can be made anonymously.
