A 29-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his wife and injuring the couple’s 6-month-old child in South Gate was charged Tuesday with murder and attempted murder.
Felton Ladell Humphries Jr. pleaded not guilty to the felony charges, along with one misdemeanor count each of resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer, peace officer or emergency medical technician and interference with a police animal.
According to the criminal complaint, he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in November 2012 in Los Angeles County.
The attack was reported about 7:10 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Pendleton Avenue, and Humphries’ 32-year-old wife, Alicia Williams, died just before 7 a.m. Monday.
The couple’s 6-month-old child was also stabbed, but survived, according to authorities.
Humphries — who was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Sunday by South Gate police — was ordered to be held in lieu of $2 million bail while awaiting his next court appearance April 26.
