A man in his 60s allegedly threatened someone with a gun and then barricaded himself inside a residence in the Westlake district for about six hours Friday before being taken into custody.
The alleged victim contacted police about 12:15 p.m., said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department‘s Media Relations Section.
The unidentified man barricaded himself inside a home in the 200 block of North Lake Street, Im said. A SWAT team was dispatched and crisis negotiators were sent to the scene.
The man was taken into custody about 6:15 p.m. after police deployed gas into the apartment, Sgt. Melvin Gamble of the LAPD’s Rampart Station said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for observation.
It was unclear if a firearm was recovered at the scene.
