A 33-year-old Los Angeles man suspected of severely beating and attempting to sexually assault an 80-year-old woman in her Hollywood retirement home was in custody Saturday.

Marcus Datwione Peete was arrested Friday by detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division’s Special Assault Section, the LAPD’s Media Relations Section said.

Peete was arrested in connection with attempted murder, burglary and assault to commit a felony during a first-degree burglary, police said.

In the early morning hours of June 18, police said the suspect entered the victim’s retirement complex near Hollywood Boulevard and Ivar Avenue, took an elevator to an upper floor and knocked on the victim’s door.

When the woman opened her door, the suspect pushed his way in, attempted to sexually assault her, severely beat her and then fled, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact authorities at (213) 486-6910 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at (800) 222- TIPS.
