A man was killed and a woman injured when they were struck by a vehicle while crossing busy Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

PCH was crowded with vehicles as beach goers headed for home about 5:25 p.m. Saturday in the 32500 block of Pacific Coast Highway at El Matador State Beach, according to Lt. Christina Baker of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff‘s Station.

The woman was airlifted to a hospital and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Baker said.

The pedestrians were described as being in their 20s, she said.

There was no word about the driver of the vehicle that struck the victims, nor if any charges may be filed.

All lanes of PCH were closed at El Matador State Beach for the investigation, the sheriff’s department said, making for an hours-long traffic jam.
