Authorities Wednesday released a security image of a man wanted as a suspect in the tagging of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Venice.
“Just before Memorial Day of this year citizens in the area noticed … graffiti done to the wall,” said Ramon Montenegro of the sheriff’s Transit Policing Division.
“The lead detective on the case, Detective Michael Thibodeaux, is a graffiti and tagging crime expert,” Montenegro said. “Using several investigative techniques he’s been able to identify the main monikers on the wall that honors service personnel killed in the line of duty during the Vietnam War.
“NONER, PHEB, SNAKE, and LITER, appear to be the names that created the most damage to the wall,” Montenegro said.
Thibodeaux discovered that the NONER moniker was linked to a tagging group based in the Bay Area, Montenegro said.
Detectives circulated a photo of a person believed to be NONER. The person in the photo appears to be a white or Hispanic male. The photo depicts a person tagging a vehicle with a tag that appears to match one from the memorial wall, Montenegro said.
“NONER may travel between the Los Angeles area and the Bay Area regularly,” Montenegro said.
Anyone with information on NONER or any of the other suspects believed to be connected to the crime was urged to call Transit Policing Division detectives at (888) 950-SAFE, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
