Authorities in Whittier Friday are seeking the public’s help in locating a bank robbery suspect.

At 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, a man armed with a handgun attempted to rob a Wells Fargo branch located inside a Ralphs supermarket at 14919 Whittier Blvd., Whittier Police Lt. Jay Tatman told the Whittier Daily News.

“The suspect came up posing as a customer, waited his turn, then passed a note demanding money,” Tatman told the newspaper.

The man kept his weapon hidden inside a manila envelope, but nervously fled the premises before any money exchanged hands, Tatman told the newspaper.

Bullet-proof glass separated the bank tellers and customers, the paper added.

The suspect is described as a man about 35 years old, with a dark complexion. He was wearing a royal blue long-sleeve shirt, dark pants, sunglasses and a white canvas fisherman’s hat.

Authorities were investigating if the suspect used a getaway car in the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Whittier Police at (562) 567- 9200 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
