A topless woman arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure outside a rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders at the Wiltern Theatre sued the city of Los Angeles and the LAPD for alleged civil rights abuses.
Anni Ma, 25, alleges in the lawsuit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, that she was making a statement against unequal treatment of women by wearing a skirt with her upper body exposed at the March 23 rally.

According to the complaint, Ma’s right to free speech and peaceful assembly were violated when she was arrested.
“This offensive contact by (the LAPD) was without consent, unwanted and not warranted by any exigency of the circumstances,” the lawsuit states.
A City Attorney’s Office spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
