A man who drowned his year-old daughter in Pasadena because he didn’t want to be a father was sentenced Friday to 25 years to life in state prison.
Marquise Jackson, 26, of Lancaster, was found guilty July 20 of one count each of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. Prosecutors said he killed his daughter, Mo’Nayjah, on May 20, 2011, while the child’s mother was at work.
The baby wasn’t breathing when police and firefighters were called to the 100 block of West Del Mar Boulevard. Rescue workers unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate her.
Police said Jackson subsequently confessed to the killing, telling investigators that he didn’t want the responsibilities of being a father.
