A 19-year-old Inglewood man pleaded not guilty Friday in the shooting death of rapper Kid Cali at a pool party last month in Granada Hills.
Kenny Birdine is charged with murder in the Aug. 20 killing of Justin Lishey, who was professionally known as Kid Cali or Cali OSo.
The 30-year-old rapper was shot in the 12400 block of Longacre Avenue at a party that had been heavily promoted on social media and through fliers.
The murder charge includes allegations that Birdine personally and intentionally discharged a handgun and that the crime was committed “for the benefit of, at the direction of, and in association with a criminal street gang.”
Birdine, who was arrested Monday, is due back in a San Fernando courtroom Oct. 26, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
