A woman tourist shot by a stray police bullet and an LAPD officer bitten by a pit bull were both recovering Saturday after a strange series of events in Venice that forced the officer to shoot and kill the dog.

The shooting occurred near Ocean Front Walk at Rose Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

An officer on patrol stopped to speak with a group of people who were accompanied by a large-breed dog, according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

One person in that group became agitated, causing the dog to become agitated and bite the officer, who then shot the dog, Madison said.

The dog — described by a witness as a pit bull or similar breed — was killed.

A bullet fired by the officer ended up striking the woman tourist in the leg as she rode by on a bicycle, Madison said.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life- threatening wound and was expected to make a full recovery, he said.

The bitten officer was treated at the scene of the Friday afternoon incident, Madison said.
