A 21-year-old man who died at the hospital after being stabbed and then dropped off at an emergency room was identified Thursday by the coroner’s office.

The victim was identified as Leonardo Saldana, according to coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Topanga Community Police Station were dispatched at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to a hospital regarding an “assault with a deadly weapon” call. They came upon Saldana dropped off at the emergency room with a stab wound, said Valley Bureau Homicide Detective John Doerbecker.

Saldana died in the emergency room, Doerbecker said.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim (Saldana) was dropped off at the hospital by potential witnesses in the case,” Doerbecker said. “Those potential witnesses left the hospital without making a statement to the officers or detectives.”

Police did not disclose the hospital’s name.

LAPD Valley Bureau homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the stabbing death to call them at (818) 374-1943. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. All tips can be made anonymously.
