Two men in their 60s were stabbed to death Thursday in Chinatown and a search was on for the suspect.
Officers were sent about 2:40 p.m. to investigate a report of a shooting with victims down in a commercial and residential area in the 900 block of North Broadway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
They arrived to find the victims had instead been fatally stabbed, according to Sgt. Jack Richter of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.
Officers were searching the area for a suspect described as a man in his 30s, Richter said.
The circumstances leading up to the killings were under investigation, he said, but according to reports from the scene, the suspect first stabbed one man, then a second who tried to intervene, at the Hop Sing Tong Benevolent Association, a gathering place popular with senior citizens.
Officers with a bloodhound were seen searching the area.
A trail of blood led investigators to believe the suspect may have been injured during the attack, according to broadcast reports.
