A man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Boyle Heights was identified Sunday in media reports.

ABC7 identified the man as 35-year-old Fred Barragan, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting, which happened just after midnight Saturday morning, forced the closure of the Metro Gold Line Soto Station in Boyle Heights.

The shooting unfolded early Saturday when officers on patrol in the area of First and Soto streets heard multiple gunshots in the area of First and Breed streets, LAPD Officer Jenny Houser said.

Officers went westbound on First Street, saw the suspect and tried to stop him when the officer-involved shooting occurred, Houser said. A gun was recovered at the location, she said.

The Metro Gold Line Soto Station was closed for hours due to the police activity.

Metro established emergency bus shuttle service for riders between the Mariachi Plaza and Indiana stations, Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo said.

The station was reopened about 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Ubaldo said.
