Police Thursday haven’t disclosed if the horrifying death of a 21-year-old man was suicide or an accident when he was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train in North Hollywood.

The incident happened around 9:25 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Sherman Way and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.

The man died at the scene, Eisenman said.

The train, which was carrying 46 passengers, was traveling southeast from Ventura to Union Station, she said.

Train service schedules were disrupted as the tracks were shut down during the investigation. However, it wasn’t known if the passengers were allowed to remain aboard and continue later to their destination or if they were taken off the train for alternate transportation.

The identity of the victim was being withheld pending family notification.
