Police said Tuesday there is apparently no evidence of criminal negligence in the death of a year-old boy who was killed by his uncle’s pickup truck in the driveway of their South Los Angeles residence.
“The uncle said he drove forward only a few feet when he felt an impact and came to an immediate stop,” according to a police statement. “He then got out from the truck and saw that his nephew had been stuck by the right front wheel of the truck.”
Right before the accident, the child had been seen by family members playing in the back of the residence, according to police, who said there was no evidence of criminal negligence.
Paramedics were sent to the 1100 block of East 49th Street at 9:57 a.m. Monday and pronounced the toddler dead at the scene, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. He was Sebastian Rodriguez, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The boy’s 24-year-old uncle remained at the scene and was interviewed by officers, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
