About 45 gallons of fuel were spilled Thursday when a tanker truck and a big rig collided in Sun Valley, but no one was seriously injured and fire crews kept the leak from reaching storm drains.
A high-voltage transformer was also damaged in the crash, which happened about 2:40 p.m. in the 11200 block of West Penrose Street near the Golden State (5) Freeway, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Two patients were evaluated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, she said.
The spill was contained and kept from entering storm drains and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was summoned to deal with the damaged transformer, Stewart said.
An image from the scene showed the big rig jackknifed across Penrose Street.
