Authorities Friday identified a woman who authorities allege was killed by the father of her child.

The woman, identified by the coroner’s office as 28-year-old Azalea Villareal, was assaulted about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 6200 block of Lanto Street, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Villareal died the following day at a hospital, the coroner’s office reported.

Bell Gardens police went to the Lanto Street address in response to a call requesting a medical rescue, Schrader said.

When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in the front yard of the residence. The woman had visible injuries to her upper body, Schrader said. She was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition and was pronounced dead around 2 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

The attack was preceded by an argument between the woman and her live-in boyfriend, who also is the father of her child, Schrader said.

The suspect, identified by authorities as 32-year-old Michael Robles, was arrested at the scene for assaulting the victim, Schrader said, and charges have been amended to murder.

Robles is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to Schrader.
