A water main break caused street flooding and cut water service to about 50 of Department of Water and Power customers Friday in the Pico-Union area, a department official said.
Firefighters discovered the break after responding to a flooding call about 4:05 p.m. in the 1000 block of Albany Street, near Olympic Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

DWP personnel were sent to the scene, she said.
A geyser-like stream of water gushed through the pavement until about 5:45 p.m., when the flow was stopped.
The break occurred in a 4-inch main. Crews were at work on repairing the line, but an estimated time of restoration was not immediately available, according to the utility.
Marvin Ortiz, who lives and owns a business in the area, told NBC4 the break started with what sounded like an explosion and the force of the water sent bits of pavement flying.
